Why are we here?

Why are we here?

It would be easy to answer this question by looking to our past… and you can read a little of that here.

However, the real answer lies in our future. Given our beliefs and our values, and taking into account our history, what is it that we believe God wants for our future? While this is a question that we must ask ourselves on a regular basis, we have tried to summarise it in just seven words…

To inspire one another to follow Jesus.

To inspire – Quite obviously, cannot we cannot ‘make’ people follow of Jesus. It has been said that, ‘you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink’. However, if you give him salt, you can make him thirsty. Jesus said that we are to be ‘the salt of the earth’ and so we want to live in such a way that would would make ‘thirsty for Jesus’; living in such a way that they want to know him and follow Him.

one another – This is not what ‘we’ do to ‘others’; rather there is a mutuality of our need and responsibility for this. We need to inspire and encourage one another.

to follow Jesus – We are not looking to get people to simply ‘make a decision’ for Jesus, or even to ‘join our church’. What we want is for them to follow Him: to live as He taught us to live, to serve and to love those around us as He did and as He has directed us to.
